art handlers become part of an artwork's story. Such was the case when a brass band greeted the truck delivering "Cult Statue of a Goddesss," a very large sculpture that was once the centerpiece of the Getty Villa in Malibu. Repatriated as part of a 2007 settlement, the Aidone Venus (as it is locally known) seems to cast her aura on even those who pack and install her. Check out the youtube video below.
The artwork was disassembled and packed into a number of crates for shipping. It is scheduled for installation in its new permanent home at the Aidone Archaeological Museum.
